When we heard that Brix, a contemporary dessert bar, had such up shop in Dubai, we were excited.And when we heard that highly-regarded Singaporean chef Akmal Anuar was at its helm, our excitement amplified even further.
Anuar is the chef and founder of home-grown concept 3 Fils – a winner of multiple Time Out Dubai Restaurant Awards.
Following a similar modern concept to 3 Fils, the ten-seater dessert bar – which serves only sweet dishes, tea and coffee – offers an intimate experience for those with a sweet tooth.
The petite spot also oozes hip vibes and reminds of somewhere you’d find in London’s cool Soho neighbourhood or on the streets on New York.
The concise menu, which is described as “a rebirth of past and present sweet dishes” from its sibling restaurant next door, offers a selection of desserts, homemade ice creams and truffles featuring interesting ingredients such as basil oil, thyme, cherry tomatoes, Earl Grey, Vimto and extra virgin olive oil – a true testament to Anuar’s playful and creative style.
The sponge cake soaked in a rose-lychee milk and topped with fresh raspberries, cream and shards of meringue is almost too pretty, but we quickly gobble it down, taking in all the delicate flavours. It’s a harmonious dish and you can tell that every ingredient is purposeful.
We can’t leave without sampling some of the picture-perfect truffles. The Earl Grey variation is rich and moreish (tea fans will love this) and the dark chocolate truffle with a sweet gooey balsamic vinegar center is probably the most unique truffle we’ve ever tried, in the best possible way.
Overlooking the waters of Jumeirah Fishing Harbour, it’s the perfect spot for a sweet pick-me-up and if you’re dining at 3 Fils make sure to leave room for dessert.
