Brunswick. Eatery | Bar | Terrace
Time Out Says
Having switched the “Sports Club” suffix for “Eatery | Bar | Terrace”, the menu change, thankfully, is nowhere near as clumsy.
Instead, it’s bursting with simple, yet delicious sounding dishes.
In fact it’s a surprise anyone can actually hear the sport – it still shows live matches – above all the lip-smacking coming from our table. And just because the football is being shown, don’t expect to have to settle for your umpteenth platter of nachos or soggy chicken wings coated in yet another indistinguishable sticky sweet sauce. Sea bass ceviche? Charred octopus? Wagyu tartare? Not exactly the staple menu you’d find down your local. And it’s brillant.
Meat-lovers, don’t miss the grilled duck served with tamari, yuzu, mustard, coriander and pickled chilli, plus a serving of the aforementioned hibachi grilled calamari, served on a simple bed of fennel, olive oil and lemon. The plates are, it’s fair to say, faultless. Punchy with seasoning, while the heat from the coriander, mustard and chilli with the duck is just right.
And, the calamari is exceptional. No sliced, chewy rings tossed in a stodgy batter and zapped in a deep fryer here – this is perfectly grilled.
The high standard continues into the mains, too. Although we’ve been told the pizzas are some of the best in town (and judging by the fluffy crusts on the table next to us, they very well could be), we continue with the seafood. Grilled black bream with crispy-as-you-like skin is paired with tomatoes and basil, while the cod risotto is outstanding. Order some asparagus just to finish it off.
This really is the Olympic standard of “sports bar” food.
