Time Out Says
Found just around the corner from Majestic Hotel Retreat (Bar Baar and all), the hotel is home to two Indian-inspired outlets. The first of which is juniper bar G&T Club Lounge, and also North Indian-originated cuisine in Bukhara.
With traditional décor and music, there’s nothing really to stop you feeling like you’re in a middle-class curry house in London, Singapore or Dubai. It does the basics brilliantly, with a fairly concise menu that doesn’t overwhelm you with options (if you aren’t particularly well-versed with the dishes).
Highlights include the Bukhara dal, a specialist house dish made with black lentils, garlic, ghee and more to create a comforting, if not slightly heavy, favourite. There’s also the salmon tikka that sees the impeccably cooked fish almost flake apart, with mustard and black pepper flourishes adding an unsual twist to the light and airy dish.
You’ll find classics, (dare we say chicken tikka masala?) across the menu, too.
A highlight is the paneer makhani, which combines cardamom, cinnamon and other spices magnificently, while avoiding that overt squidginess you sometimes get.
Helpful, friendly staff cap off a traditional, enjoyable Indian meal.
