A sublime spot beachside and good food are served up at this pleasant beach bar
Time Out Says
The views from Captain’s are sublime. The nautical nature implied by its name is more than justified by its pristine position on the Jebel Ali Beach Hotel’s 800m stretch of private sand, a spot which offers a sweeping windswept vista of the sunset merging into the Arabian Gulf – although be sure to position your table west towards Abu Dhabi, the easterly views of Jebel Ali’s docks are somewhat less appealing. Specialising in grilled BBQ-style cuisine, there’s a homely old-school feel to munching on kebabs and beef-steaks, although the seafood grills can be overpriced and a little underwhelming. The romanticism of the rippling waves and twinkly twilight seclusion is only really undermined by the slightly naff covers band that lends the otherwise spotless location – a cheapened, holiday camp-style vibe. The fact most diners are hotel guests, stranded miles outside of Dubai without many dining options, doesn’t help this uneasy feeling. But get there in time for sunset, and Captain’s justifies the lengthy drive.
