Chez Sushi

Casual Japanese eatery that caters for sushi fans

Time Out Says

If you drive past Chez Sushi in Al Safa’s Wasl Square Mall on six out of seven days of the week, you may spot a handful of tables occupied in the small Japanese restaurant.

But one day of the week is a whole different kettle of (raw) fish. Every Wednesday the casual Jumeirah spot offers 50 percent off all food and that brings in the Asian food-lovers until there are queues outside the door.

Any day of the week though you can select your ingredients and watch the expert chefs roll it all together in the open plan kitchen, or you can choose straight from the menu.

The burrito rolls are a big hit. Huge, seaweed wrapped, sticky rice, raw salmon and shredded carrot and cucumber filled burritos are really just an up-sized version of a maki roll, but naturally a lot more filling.

The warming miso soup with bite-sized pieces of tofu and perfectly-salted edamame make good appetiser choices.

When it comes to the sushi, the eatery is true to its ‘let’s roll’ motto with an impressive list of maki and temaki. The prawn tempura maki, with a secret tangy pink sauce, is by far our favourite and deserves a second helping.

The seared tuna tataki is another standout, with the novel nori chips adding some extra crunch to your meal.

Worth a visit, especially on a Wednesday.
