Time Out Says
From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2011Many restaurants in shopping malls open out onto communal food courts packed with hyperactive children and agitated parents. Not so with China Times, located in Deira City Centre. Although nestled among other eateries, this gem still retains a restaurant feel and a character all of its own. Friendly staff combined with an extensive menu should provide enough variety for even the pickiest diner – and be prepared, the portions are huge: barring the soups, one dish could serve two hungry adults.
Crisp squid rings make for a good sharing platter before tucking into some hearty mains. When the lemon chicken arrives, be prepared to eat as one portion includes three juicy chicken breasts in a light, crisp batter punctuated with a sharp lemon sauce, providing a great balance of taste and texture. The sliced beef with spring onions and fragrant ginger is a triumph, as too is the fiery bok choi with chillies. There was not enough room left for dessert! The only real downside is the lack of a real Chinese atmosphere; American music piped through the speaker system and not a chopstick in sight will detract, but only if you are able to prise your eyes away from the feast before you.
