When you trundle up the stairs in the lobby of the unremarkable Mövenpick Hotel, you are letting yourself in for a treat. The north Indian fare that comes out of the kitchen is top notch. It’s easily superior to the city’s delicious but cheap joints simply because the ingredients are top quality. A common mistake with Indian food is the tendency to over-do flavour and spices, removing subtlety from the taste experience. This is not something that plagues Chutney’s; the Nawabi flavours are earthy, complex and just plain good. While it won’t win any awards for its atmosphere (its kitsch), and it’s certainly pricy, service is knowledgeable and the food is delicious.
