Common Grounds

Fresh, healthy food at the mall

Time Out Says

From the team behind Time Out Dubai-award winning café Tom & Serg this trendy eatery at Mall of the Emirates is routinely packed, especially on weekend mornings.

Expect a buzzy vibe, friendly service, and a wait for a table (and, on occasions, some food).

The wait is worth it, however, as the food is top-notch, and the spacious area makes for a relaxed place to kick-back after a spot of shopping at Mall of the Emirates.

Although Common Grounds does a cracking lunch and dinner – think katsu bowls, summer rolls et al – breakfasts are where it’s at as far as we’re concerned.

A new addition to the menu is the “avo smash”. There are few things we love more than tableside guac, and this is the coffee shop equivalent. So it’s adios tortilla chips, and good morning to thick slices of sourdough toast.

A roaming trolley lets you pick your extras to mix with the avocado – we recommend feta, pine nuts and chilli for that warming kick start to your morning. All that’s left is to pile it on to the crispy toast. Simple, yet tasty.

The mushrooms on sourdough toast is also winner. These meaty ’shrooms are rich and juicy, while the poached egg is spot-on and a goats’ cheese croquette rounds it all off nicely.

Don’t miss the coffee, either. The flat whites are as good as promised and will leave you ready to tackle the remainder of mall excursion.

The bottom line
Fresh, healthy food at the mall.
