Crown & Lion
Time Out Says
The menu at Crown & Lion is a who’s who of British pub classics, and the portions are, at times, gobsmacking. Even the sandwiches are less doorstop (or step), more good-luck-fitting-one-through-a-front-door. The BLT and toasted Cuban in particular are absolute belters.
Better yet, it’s all homemade, right down to the pie of the day, which always comes (and the importance of this cannot be overstated) fully encased in buttery, golden pastry.
While it’s not the cheapest pub in town, it doesn’t stop the place filling up nightly. And there’s great value to be found on a daily basis, with rotating two-for-ones on the likes of roast dinners and fish and chips, plus a weekday lunch deal where a main course and house beverage will set you back a crowd-pleasing Dhs65.
The authentic fry-ups are – unsurprisingly – are a best-seller, loaded with sausage, bacon, black pudding, fried eggs, mushrooms, baked beans, grilled tomato and hash browns.
Whether or not you’re local to the area, big into your sports or a whizz when it comes to the dingbats round in a pub quiz, Crown & Lion should be top of your list for a proper pub feed.
These lads aren’t messing around.
