Cubo Restaurant

The World Trade Centre's Italian dining spot

Time Out Says

From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2008

You’ll need sharp elbows to bag yourself a lunchtime table at Cubo Pasta. With its airy open plan ambience and prime location right next door to the World Trade Centre, it’s an appealing place to chow down some serviceable Italian food.

Evenings are less frenetic, although a frighteningly good value all-you-can-eat offer on Wednesday and Thursday also packs ’em in. You suspect however that the budget offers and the sparkling situation have more bearing on the restaurant’s popularity than its spotty menu.

An insalata caprese stands and falls on the quality of its mozzarella, and the thick lumps of tasteless cheese in this version negate the solid work done by chunky slices of fresh tomato and a light balsamic dressing.

Much better is the insalata del contadino – a mixed assortment of leaves beefed up by hunks of tallegio cheese, alpine milk asiago, slices of pork and cherry tomatoes. An otherwise faultless salumi pizza is let down by a slightly doughy base, while the smooth sauce of the spaghetti carbonara has an unworthy comrade in arms in the knotted strands of pasta.

It’s these flaws that hold Cubo Pasta back, ensuring that it remains grounded amid the towering structures that surround it.
