Dampa Seafood Grill
Time Out Says
Based in Deira, it’s fairly hidden away, but you’ll know it when you see it, due to the big queues in an otherwise deserted area.
From the same team as popular Filipino chain Max’s Restaurant, it’s usually packed. With only a few tables inside and a handful on the terrace, there’s sure to be a bit of a wait, but the service and turnaround is fast enough to ensure you won’t be hanging around hungry for too long.
There’s nothing elegant about this seafood joint, and the menu is compact and to-the-point.
Pick your catch (the prawns in a Cajun sauce are excellent) and wait for it to arrive and be dumped on the table. Literally. The tables are spread with plastic cloths, while all the food is spread out in front you. Who needs plates anyway?
Dig in with your fingers, or don the plastic gloves provided, to scoop up the tasty prawns and spicy, garlicky sauce.
All dishes come with rice, and we suggest you order the Cajun corn, too, it’s messy but worth it.
Probably not one for a first date but certainly a fun-filled experience. Plus, at under Dhs100 for two, this quirky budget find is worth stopping by.
