A meal at Social by Heinz Beck is fine dining at its best. There are so many elements that make an evening here such an exceptional experience, from the platter of complimentary canapés to enjoy as you read the menu (which on our visit included liquid olives, made famous by Ferran Adria) to the petit fours that round off the meal. The menu still manages to be unpretentious, and is a concise list of salads, appetisers, pastas, mains and sides. And though there are plenty of dishes featuring foams and foie gras gems, the majority of food is simple and familiar; mushroom tortellini, for example, or beef tenderloin with apple-onion jus. Everything is faultless in quality, taste and presentation, while desserts, in particular, are stunning (order the Raspberries 1.1). The setting feels elegant, understated and down to earth – there’s nothing ostentatious about it. It’s quiet though, and this is, unfortunately, the only downside. You won’t find a buzzing atmosphere here, which is surprising for a restaurant that offers such special food at great value for money (especially if you compare the price to almost all other Italians in Dubai). Put this aside, however, and visit for the food. It will be one of the most enjoyable meals you’ll have in the city.
