This venue includes a southern American smokehouse, which is why it's in this chapter. The restaurant, in the Marina’s swanky Pier 7, offers a modern dining experience though, with plenty of British- and Asian-inspired dishes too. The is stripped back with exposed fittings and concrete walls, putting it at the right side of edgy without being contrived. It’s trendy enough for the twenty-something, but not so “out-there” that you wouldn’t take your in-laws. The space is top-and-tailed with kitchen counters, where guests can sit and dine. A separate bar area is full of character and constantly busy. The chatter from here lifts the restaurant and creates a real city bar-type vibe. The restaurant has a “no reservation” policy, and is often very busy, so it’s worth having a drink if you have to wait for a table. Sticking with the theme, the menu is presented on a coat hanger, and there’s not a great deal of choice. But the food is packed full of flavour with the dishes served tapas style, making them great for sharing. Fumé is relaxed and energetic, making it well worth a visit, no matter whose company you are in.
