This new, circular bar sits on the first floor of Marriott’s Courtyard Dubai, overlooking the hotel’s pool and the residential area’s lake. So, while the interiors are a little sparse, though perfectly pleasant, the views outside are pretty and serene.
Neighbourhood doesn’t look like an old-school British pub, but its menu of fish and chips, burgers, curries and bar snacks certainly reads like one.
It’s only been open a month and is pretty quiet while we enjoy a weekday lunch, but with plenty of people living nearby, and few licensed places in the immediate vicinity, the bar is sure to pick up before long.
The cauliflower cheese croquettes from the bar bites section of the menu lack flavour. The vegetable is just too watery to carry this off, and the cheese isn’t punchy enough for our liking, but the spicy sauce that comes with the three big dippers helps save the dish.
Deep-fried haddock and chips is a winner, though. And although we initially think the portion of fish is a bit stingy, we’re full by the time we polish off the crispy fillet, which is filled with white, fresh flakes. The chips, mushy peas and tartar sauce are tops, too.
A good value addition.
The Bottom Line
A reminder of home for British expats.
