One thing is guaranteed when you visit Pierchic – the wow factor. The setting is sublime. Once you get to the end of the pier (probably arriving by buggy) you can’t help but be impressed. As you walk towards the restaurant at the pier head, the suspense builds (but the owners could probably do with scrapping the cheesy tourist-snapping photographer on the way – it’s kind of a buzz-killer). Once you’re inside, the venue is very cool, though a table on the terrace outside is de rigueur in cooler months. There’s low lighting, low seating/tables and superb service. It’s a real destination place, somewhere to impress a loved one or to celebrate a big event, however, with that comes a slightly touristy vibe. The menu opens with choices of oysters and caviar (we told you it was high-end) and has a frankly outrageous (and outrageously good) seafood platter. For the more measured diner, try the ceviche or scallops from the starters. Both a beautifully presented without being too fussy. The mains follow the same path – the ingredients and the chefs skills are left unadorned to impress on their own merits. It’s a trick that works. The food really is excellent and its simplicity is at odds with much of Dubai’s food scene.
