Decked out in wood panelling with plenty of seating, some positioned around appropriately barrel-shaped tables, this is a no-frills kind of place to enjoy a drink while catching a game on one of the TVs. If opting for food, don’t expect to be blown away. Your typical bar fare is on offer, from burgers to steaks, via stews and curries. Unfortunately the fish and chips isn’t executed well, with the batter greasy and the fish mushy. The chicken pie is a better bet, with flaky pastry covering succulent pieces of meat in a creamy sauce. Atmosphere-wise, Barrels isn’t the liveliest of venues, although it suffices if you’re looking for an understated catch-up with friends or a quiet evening alone. Be warned, though, that it can get quite smoky at times.
