Time Out Says
The classic Don Corleone is back in its shiny new location of the Metropolitan Hotel Dubai.
Pictures of the gangster the restaurant is named after and his mobster crew greet you as you enter and their portraits adorn the walls, too.
It’s bright and airy and has a crisp, clean feel to it. But the traditional Italian trattoria-style red chequered tablecloths are about as far as the comparison can go, as the whole thing feels so utterly brand-new and sparkling. And while menu features some classically Italian dishes that you’d expect to see – salads, soups, pasta and pizzas, antipasti such as carpaccio and bresaola and substantial main course including lamb chops and grilled beef tenderloin – nothing really has that wonderfully home-made, truly authentic taste.
Presentation is up there with the best, though.
To start, try the carpaccio di manzo, which comes beautifully presented – the wafer-thin, silky-smooth beef, loving arranged around a mound of truffle oil-soaked rocket, with shards of Parmesan balancing tower-like around it all. It’s delicious. Burrata fans are best steering clear here – it’s rubbery on the outside and liquid within.
Thankfully, our fettuccine al salmone main makes up for the mishap. It’s rich and creamy with perfectly al dente pasta and chunks of wholesome salmon – a proper little reward with every bite. But if it’s pizza you’re after, these are more canteen-style than they are authentically Italian, but they do come with a generous helping of toppings and wonderfully gooey mozzarella. Service is also top-notch. Staff are attentive, offering up recommendations without needing any prompting.
This is a relaxed spot to spend an afternoon with the family. For simple, decent, feel-good food, Don Corleone has an offer you can’t refuse.
