From Time Out Dubai Eating Out 2009Don’t go out of your way to dine at Dusit Gourmet, as it’s pretty consistent at being standard. While the chairs are comfy in the alfresco area, the view of scaffolding and sandpits leaves something to be desired.
The starters are promising, though: mushroom soup with truffle oil is a simple, hearty affair and an order of tom yum goong – a Thai seafood soup – gives off a quick-fire heat (the type that comes in a wave, clears your sinuses, then rushes out the door, though it offers a paltry number of shrimp and mushrooms. Mains may not excite but they do satisfy.
The salmon, although a bit greasy and with a side dish of potato that is suspiciously powdery, does hit the spot nicely. The restaurant opens up onto several metres of display case bearing an assortment of pastries.
As a result, one would assume that these would probably be the venue’s signature. They aren’t. It’s true, there’s nothing particularly memorable about the food at Dusit Gourmet, and a meal there is certainly not worth a cab trip. But, if it’s only down the street, this isn’t a bad choice for a quick cup of soup, a coffee or a swift fix of chocolate.
