New burger joint Elevation is an American brand that has landed in Dubai with a promise of premium ingredients in its patties. Arriving at the branch on Sheikh Zayed Road, we were met with the usual order-and-pay at the counter concept, with two crucial differences. Firstly, the menu, lists some extremely different burgers, including the vertigo burger containing upwards of four beef patties and counting (affectively as many as you care to pay for), a veggie option, a ‘half the guilt’ veggie plus beef option and even the choice of wrapping your patties in a lettuce leaf in case you’re sworn off the carbs. The other difference was the service because in comparison to the average fast food burger place, our server had a good grasp of what was on offer and was able to suggest which toppings we should choose to top the ‘fancy fries’.

We ordered an Elevation burger (containing two beef patties and cheese) a ‘half the guilt’ burger (with one beef and one vegetarian patty), normal fries and a portion of fancy fries covered in caramelised onion, cheddar cheese and Elevation sauce. We also opted for a milkshake each.

We took a seat in the dining room; an average fast food canteen space, designed in uninspiring tones of beige and white, but adorned with Elevation’s Kansas prairie meets anime Mount Fuji logos. After a short time, the food arrived. Although neatly packaged, I felt the burgers looked squidgy and small. We bit in, and they were definitely highly enjoyable with good, tender beef in the patty and noticeable nicer cheddar cheese than you often find in fast food outlets. The veggie patty was also good, with a nice nuttiness to the texture and taste. However, the gimmick of adding two beef patties in every burger seemed defunct, since the patties were fairly thin and small, and I was slightly horrified to find a dripping pool of fat collecting at the bottom of the wrapper.

The fries were also good. Despite our guilt over the cheese and fried onion drippy fancy fries, they were indulgently delicious and disappeared quickly. The plain fries were also decent, only very gently salted and with slivers of the potato skin still on.

We also enjoyed the milkshakes, which unusually were made by mixing your choice of ice cream (in our case vanilla) with any ingredient from the list. We choose fresh blueberries, which made for a naturally sweet, and fully flavoured mix and in the other milkshake, fresh mangoes pieces, which provided a gummy chewiness for a nice change in consistency.

The bill (for two)
1x Elevation burger Dhs35
1x Half the guilt burger Dhs38
1x Fresh fries Dhs12
1x Fancy fries Dhs22
2x Shakes Dhs50
Total (excluding service) Dhs 157
