Time Out Says
Eric’s doesn’t sound like, or look like, a typical Indian restaurant. Along a quiet Karama street, it resembles a bistro with quaint white wood framed windows, lace curtains and Parisian art bedecking the walls. The menu is also confused, opening up with Chinese starters and salads before going on to highlight Indian, Chinese and Thai mains. The Indian selection offers diners a good range of familiar classics such as biryanis and butter chicken, but also more authentic dishes such as Goan fish curry and diwani handi (a spiced mixed vegetable dish). The menu isn’t too large to navigate and the staff will guide you through the dishes, as many of the items don’t have a description in English. If you’re after a cheap eat following a day dashing through the shops of Karama, then Eric’s is a good budget option; the majority of the main courses come in well under Dhs40. But for that money you don’t always get the highest quality, with the results from the kitchen being a bit hit-and-miss.
