Far East Restaurant
Time Out Says
Far East Restaurant’s signature halo halo drink appears, on first sight, to contain every ingredient known to man. The brave explorer will discover, with each dig of the spoon, yet more strange and wonderful ingredients – red beans, coconut meat, crème caramel, sweetened plantain, yam, dried rice, jackfruit, soy beans and lots of milk.
Once you’ve dealt with this spectacularly odd drink, the rest of the menu is quite straightforward and on the whole, excellent value. Chicken and beef dishes cost Dhs12 and the seafood and vegetable plates come in at a thoroughly reasonable Dhs10. Everything comes with rice.
The beef with oyster sauce, prepared with cauliflower, celery, ginger and garlic, is excellent; the meat is lean and tender – and the pancit mikibihon (vermicelli-style noodles with chicken and vegetables) is also a tingly taste sensation.
