Dubai's best milkshakes

Like your milk shaken, not stirred? Check these out

Johnny Rockets

These guys get extra points for portion size – one milkshake could easily satisfy two (even three) eager customers. The shakes are thick and lush (that’ll be the fresh cream) and we dig the malt versions, which taste like Maltesers. They’re also served perfectly chilled. Now if they were just a bit cheaper.

Given that this place is primarily a tea shop, we wouldn’t have pegged it for offering truly delightful milkshakes. The mango version is our fave: it has whole chunks of fresh fruit running through it and is so creamy it almost froths. If only the café itself had a bit more atmosphere.

Milkshakes are creamy – that’s part of their modus operandi. But the Fatburger shakes are so thick and clotted, they manage to defy creaminess. It’s almost as if the concoction came straight from the cow’s udder. We’re in love with this whipped cream-like dessert (particularly the strawberry version), and the price is reasonable to boot.

We’re surprised that more places in Dubai don’t serve date milkshakes. Luckily Carluccio’s, bastion of Italian cooking, offers a chunky version with pieces of date, and it’s not too sweet (a rare accomplishment). We could possibly take the shake a bit thicker, but we like it all the same.

More Café

These shakes are simple: grab a scoop of home-made ice cream, add milk and ice, blend. We adore the fruity flavours – particularly strawberry – and love how each shake tastes as though it’s made from scratch (no corn syrup here).

Shakespeare & Co.

This quaint little café chain offers a huge range of flavours (think coffee, banana, honey-banana and cookies and cream), and the atmosphere is such that we could while away the day trying each and every one. Thick, fresh and delicious, these would be the top pick if they weren’t so expensive.
