New hotels and restaurants in Dubai

We look forward to new places to eat

Old Dubai is a hotbed of activity right now; and it’s not just the opening of new restaurants, but new hotels too. This means infinitely more restaurants to try, which usually makes us infinitely happier.

The new Jumeirah Creekside Hotel opened at the very beginning of July, bringing with it eight new restaurants and bars. Among them, Asian restaurant Nomad boasts a 24-hour deli, Art-Deco-inspired Italian venue Biscotti focuses particularly on pastries, and the grill restaurant Blue Flame is serving simple steak and seafood dishes, with a particular emphasis on using fresh, seasonal vegetables, organic ingredients and sustainable fish. On that last note, we are pleased to see such an eco-friendly agenda on the horizon for Dubai’s restaurant scene.

Back to New Dubai- Dubai Marina to be precise, and MAKE Business Hub, a trendy café that draws in a crowd of young creatives has launched a new dining event called ‘Dinner with Ted’. This aims to bring the café’s online community of regulars together as real-life, non-virtual friends over that most social of pastimes – dinner. The idea for this ‘social dining platform’ came about as a way of offering people an environment and opportunity to meet and socialise with new people outside of the usual bar setting. Held on alternating Wednesday evenings, you can head down to the café for a three-course dinner of MAKE specialities, joining new people at the large communal table. For now, the next dates for ‘Dinner with Ted’ will be July 18, August 1, and August 15, giving you plenty of (perhaps unexpected) opportunities to get out and get some new friends during the Holy Month.

As ice-lolly season is upon us, we are intrigued by the Zoku Quick Pop Maker. Available from It’s Sugar in Mall of the Emirates, this machine can supposedly make ice lollies (out of juice, yoghurt, etc) in as little as seven minutes! Can that be scientifically possible? If it is, we want one.

On a similar note, Coffee Planet has just launched a new line in ice-cool summer drinks. Locally based in the UAE, this company is also one of the largest coffee roasteries in the Middle East. The selection of new cold drinks combine coffee and tea with a selection of seasonal summer fruits such as mango, strawberry, peach and pomegranate. These will be available at Coffee Planet cafés and carts across the UAE, including locations at the University of Wollongong in Knowledge Village and the API Tower on Sheikh Zayed Road. Among those available, interesting sounding concoctions include the ‘unfreezing believable iced coffee’ and the ‘a heart of cold iced tea’. Both drinks can be served with your choice of extra flavours.
And with that – until next week, bon appétit!
