Ashton Kutcher's Ketchup in Dubai

Retro burger joint challenges diners to eat 1kg of food in eight minutes

The Knowledge

Currently in cinemas playing Apple founder Steve Jobs, the Dude Where’s My Car? actor is investing in Dubai’s burger scene. With the opening of Ketchup, an outlet of the Kutcher-backed restaurant chain, we’re promised an upscale ’50s diner with a ‘psychedelic twist’. Having starred in far-out cult TV series That ’70s Show alongside Mila Kunis, we’ll have to trust Mr Kutcher on producing a suitably ‘mind-expanding’ venue. Originating in West Hollywood in 2007, the Dubai outlet will feature a special ‘eat one kilo in eight minutes’ promotion.

Taking place each Saturday in September, the challenge of wolfing down 700g of USDA beef (plus fries) in 480 seconds is incentivised with the reward of a Dhs200 restaurant voucher and the accolade of having your name on the ‘Ketchup Hall of Fame’. In keeping with its tomato sauce-based moniker, the burger joint will also be offering a unique selection of flavoured ketchups.
