This week we munch our way through a global selection of new eateries, from Latin dining to Belgian waffles.
We’ve got a feast of new restaurant and café openings for you to sample this week. Now that the new Conrad Dubai hotel is up and running, there’s an exciting sounding line-up of new eating options too. The British chef’s latest offering, Marco Pierre White Grill is now open. There is a piano lounge bar and open kitchen, as well as a menu of classic English cooking including fish and chips, beef tenderloin with blue cheese crème fraiche and organic Dorper lamb.
Also open at the hotel is Ballarò, fronted by yet another Michelin-starred chef, Italian Massimo Mantarro. His kitchen is serving modern Sicilian cooking such as lobster linguine with aubergine, tomato and marjoram fondue and saffron ravioli (made in-house) with garlic broccoli and ragusano cheese.
Launching at Conrad Dubai later this month is Izel, a supperclub concept with a Latin American menu. While the design is inspired by ancient Aztec, Olmec and Mayan art, the menu promises classics from the continent such as ceviche, Patagonian lamb and Argentinean rib eye steak. More Latin flavour will be lent to the concept courtesy of the extensive cigar humidor and Latin music.
Open only last week is the Citywalk Mall on Al Wasl Square. Here, foodies with a sweet tooth can try out new concept Rice Creamery. Much like an ice-cream parlour, only specialising in rice pudding, the new store offers 25 flavours of the creamy stuff from white chocolate, red velvet, peanut butter and vanilla, to Arabian-inspired recipes such as orange blossom or kunafa. Also open in Citywalk Mall to tempt you is a new branch of Singaporean coffee bun concept PappaRoti Café.
Meanwhile, in another of Dubai’s malls, there’s a new coffee spot to try in the China Court of Ibn Battuta Mall, Baker & More. It offers freshly baked pastries and macaroons, as well as sandwiches, wraps and all-day breakfast items from the ‘eggs station’. There is also free wi-fi and plenty of plug points apparently for those wishing to check in online.
Another addition to the mall is Sweet Ideas Café located in the Tunisian Court. This venue specialises in authentic Belgian waffles, from the region of Liège, where they originate from, and come in a variety of flavours.
Last stop in our culinary travels: Italy, via New York. Serafina, a New York-based brand of Italian restaurants (frequented by Lady Gaga and the Beckhams) is due to open a Dubai branch in Souk Al Bahar this month. The grand 300-seater space will boast views of the Burj Khalifa as well as 24 varieties of pizza.
Finally, The Pizza Guys, a New York-style pizzeria has launched in Business Bay, using a Florentine-built brick oven to make their pizzas and promising attention to the ingredients used, such as hormone-free Wagyu beef and hand-made stracciatella.
