This week’s menu specials include organic greens, new-look seafood, fiery wings and mobile burgers (in bagels).
Last week we were feeling enthusiastically green-fingered with organic market and gardening news in Dubai. This week, the green wave of excitement continues. There is another new market starting for the season: the ‘Saturday Souk’ at Madinat Jumeirah, featuring local companies including Greenheart Organic Farms. Also, taking place this week is a gardening workshop held by Slow Food Dubai. Costing only Dhs20 per person to join in, the event takes place on Friday December 12 in Warsan 3, Al Awir Road.
You’ll find more new season rejuvenation at Pierchic, an exclusive Dubai dining spot that has just emerged from its refurb-chrysalis.
The selection of Mediterranean seafood dishes on the menu now features a collaboration between long-standing head chef Rosalind Parsk and three Michelin-starred chef Laurent Gras. Also new to the venue are two ‘over-water pods’, each boasting 360-degree views of the Arabian Gulf. Other new additions include a seafood bar serving ceviche, caviar and oysters.
CLAW BBQ, another popular seafood spot in the emirate, also has a surprise ready for diners. The crab shack has just introduced some terrifying sounding chicken: the ‘XXX suicide inferno wings’. Ouch. This new dish is CLAW BBQ’s latest extreme dining challenge. Diners are being dared to eat 12 of these super-spicy wings in 20 minutes, and will be rewarded with a free bottle of hops for every wing they manage (from the seventh onwards). If you take the challenge on, you will be offered goggles and gloves…
If you prefer your dining without protective equipment, new online business SugarMoo Desserts has just launched in Dubai. The company offers home delivery and boasts that it is one of few stores to offer dessert deliveries within hours. Specialising in hybrid recipes, the brand sells 30 different varieties of dessert, such as ‘cupookies’ (mini cakes and cookie with different flavoured custard). There is also the fairly dubious-sounding ‘potato chip cake’, which is a chocolate cake with potato chips sprinkled between each layer. Other signature creations on offer include ‘yolo, more smores’ and ‘twisted apple cheesecake’.
Finally, we leave you with news about a food trend in Dubai that is picking up speed. With its foot currently on the accelerator of the food truck trend is Jake’s by The Food Truck. Due to launch this month, the concept offers a menu of burgers and fries – with bagels. Jake’s will pitch up at different locations in Dubai and, like the recent #findsalt craze, you will be able to use The Food Truck app and social media to locate the van. And there are also plans to introduce even more van concepts under The Food Truck banner.
