Tom Aikens in Dubai, new menu at Zafran and much more

We’ve only just bid farewell to Jason Atherton and it is already time to welcome another of England’s top chefs to the Dubai fold. While Jason was busy cooking up a storm last week at his Beach Canteen pop-up, guess who else was in the Emirates? None other than Michelin-starred chef Tom Aikens, who has cooked under icons such as Jöel Robuchon and Pierre Koffmann. In between visits to the budget curry-lovers’ paradise Ravi, chef Tom has been busy in Dubai working on a brand-new concept due to open at The Beach in JBR. Watch this space!

Ahead of Tom’s launch, British foodies are in for another treat at The Beach. Here, you’ll find quirky new eatery Retro Feasts, a fresh and fun looking space with a red telephone box for an entrance and spitfires hanging from the ceiling. Matching this vintage vision of Britain is a menu that ranges from coronation chicken salad to fish finger sandwiches and desserts such as knickerbocker glory and Eton mess. If that doesn’t appeal, you can also try dishes such as crispy duck salad, beach box blinis, macaroni cheese and burgers.

From Britain by The Beach, we take you to Box Park in Al Wasl, where one of the first restaurants to launch at this new complex, Studio Masr, is now open. This new Egyptian eatery specialises in classic cooking and is the first branch in Dubai.

This month, we also have a feast of dining deals for you to try. At the beginning of this week Italian restaurant BiCE will be celebrating grape from the Barolo region of Italy. There will be a special four-course grape pairing menu on Wednesday March 4, followed by a month of specials from this region.

Meanwhile, Indian eatery Zafran introduces its new ‘Times of Delhi’ menu, which celebrates street food favourites from the Indian capital. On it, you’ll find a selection of kathi rolls (stuffed Indian flatbreads), vegetarian Punjabi samosas, kebabs, aloo tikki kurkuri (crispy potato cakes) and rose-flavoured kulfi falooda with almond. The promotional menu will be available from Sunday March 15 to Thursday April 30.

As if that wasn’t enough to keep you busy in March, new Hollywood-export Delphine Restaurant & Bar at The H Dubai has just launched a spree of regular weekly deals. On Mondays, enjoy the raw bar special with dishes such as ceviche, tartare and oysters, served with bubbly. On Wednesdays, you can sample specially selected grape varieties from the west coast of America. There is also a new grape and cheese night taking place on Thursdays, and the brand-new ‘sparkling Hollywood brunch’ on Fridays, too. Each of these new events promises live entertainment and there is also a daily happy hour.
