Dubai loves its superlatives, right? The highest this, the biggest that… News just in this week is of a new dining experience, located in the clouds. Launching later in March, Dinner in the Sky will be coming to Dubai. This special event involves dining at a table suspended 50 meters above the ground. The dining experience lasts for one hour and can accommodate 22 diners at a time. Different price packages will be available, and you’ll be able to buy tickets at www.timeouttickets.com.
From sky high to sky-high prices. Next up for an unexpectedly elaborate makeover is ice-cream. New Jumeirah parlour Scoopi Café specialises in making the dessert with the use of high-tech liquid nitrogen. Now, the company has launched ‘the black diamond’. This recipe is made with Madagascan vanilla, Iranian saffron, Italian black truffle and 23-carat edible gold flakes. Oh, and it may be only ice cream, but this dish is served with a matching Versace bowl and spoon, which you can keep. And the damage to your wallet for that dish will be – wait for it – Dhs2,999. That beats even Fortnum&Mason’s Dhs210 caviar and gold-leaf sundae.
Meanwhile, BiCE Mare is getting ready to welcome its own dining high point, in the form of a highly awarded guest chef. Michelin-starred Marianna Vitale was also declared Italy’s best female chef in 2014. She’ll be teaming up with the restaurant’s head chef Francesco Guarracino to produce a special menu. Dishes featured on it will include calamari with pecorino cheese, fresh broad beans and vanilla, and salted cod with sweet cantaloupe melon and citrus caponata. This menu will be available at BiCE Mare from Tuesday March 24, but next month, chef Marianna will be in Dubai hosting dinner at the restaurant from Wednesday April 8 to Thursday 9.
We’ve dug up some more female-friendly foodie news for you this week. This time from the week’s biggest food event Taste of Dubai. This year, the three-day festival has introduced its first-ever ladies’ night. Taking place on Thursday March 12 – Taste of Dubai’s opening evening – women who visit on this night will be offered two complimentary beverages.
Finally, we’ll leave you with some dining news from Ruth’s Chris Steak House. On Sunday March 29, the restaurant will be celebrating Italian grape produced by the Gaja family, with an exclusive three-course set menu, paired to this variety. For Dhs495 per person, you’ll be able to sample dishes such as black truffle with beef tartare, fresh rocket and Parmesan, seared scallop served with lemon butter sauce and beef striploin with dried fruit sauce.
Until next week, bon appétit!
