In a tweet: A fine-dining steakhouse brunch within the luxurious Jumeirah Zabeel Saray. Best for romantic meal.
The venue: Don’t let the large wrought-iron cow at the entrance of the venue put you off. The interior is dark, plush and inviting, decked out in deep reds and browns. Though large, it still manages to feel intimate and romantic. The outdoor terrace, just off the central bar area, is bathed in sunlight, offering a contrasting dynamic that still affords a relaxed vibe.
The food: Food is served as a set menu of starters and desserts, and guests can choose between pan-seared sea bass or a selection of beef for their main course. The latter is a meat lover’s dream – the quality being second to none; cutting through the beef is like slicing through butter, and is perhaps the best steak we’ve tried at a Dubai brunch. The John Stone smoked short rib, which is succulent, sweet and simply falls apart, is another standout dish.
The drinks: The dedicated bar serves up a fruity mix of beverages, while a mixologist moves around offering suggestions and creating delicious and inventive concoctions. There are also beverage stations that change weekly.
The crowd: The brunch is suited to couples and small groups, since the vibe here is quite a romantic one.
The dress code: Dress to impress. This brunch provides a great opportunity for guests to look their absolute best.
The service: Staff are friendly, though the service can be slow at times. On our visit, we had to keep a look out and ask to have our drinks replenished on occasion.
Extras & entertainment: A jazz band provides the entertainment throughout the afternoon.
Highs & lows: The service could do with a little sharpening up, but that will surely come with time – the brunch only started in February. However, the food is outstanding, and that alone makes it worth a visit.
The after party: The party continues after brunch with a buy one, get one free offer on house beverages from 4pm to 6pm.
