This week, we have news that’s perfect for those of you with a sweet tooth.
Several food and beverage companies have launched special Summer-inspired items and flavours. First up, local gelateria Dri Dri (located at The Beach, JBR, Citywalk and BoxPark on Al Wasl Road) has introduced new flavours including tamarind and mango, coconut, banana and mandarin.
Häagen-Dazs Café also has sweet seasonal creations up its sleeve this month. You can sample Ramadan-inspired desserts here such as the café’s ‘Ramadan Delights’, which is a three-tier, afternoon-tea-style treat. It involves six miniature waffle baskets filled with signature Häagen-Dazs ice-cream flavours, with the top tier covered in caramelised nuts. On the middle tier you’ll find brownies and an assortment of traditional Arabic pastries. On the bottom tier there is a mini fondue with a selection of fresh fruits and a pot of melted chocolate. The ‘Arabic sensation’ dessert is kunafa filled with roasted pistachios, and topped with sugar syrup and two scoops of ice-cream and more pistachios. There is also a new beverage on the menu, made with scoops of raspberry and mint sorbet, blended with sparkling water and crushed ice. These new items are available only during Ramadan.
Moving on from iced treats to the hot stuff and Costa Coffee has introduced Ramadan-inspired designs to its coffee mugs. Two specially designed mugs are available for Dhs35 each, which feature calligraphy designs to mark the Holy Month. Its menu also features locally inspired limited-edition items such as the rose and almond flavoured latte, a date and toffee pudding, basbousa (semolina cake made with coconut and rose water), and also a selection of cookies made especially for Ramadan.
Finally, we have left something quite unexpected up our sleeve for last. A little kunafa and rose water is a must at this time of year, but if you’d like to add some seasonal flavour to your popcorn, head to Garrett Popcorn Shops. The company has introduced a limited-edition cardamom and caramel variety on its menu.
Until next week, bon appétit!
