Back in 2013, Time Out Dubai spoke to British chef Jeff Galvin (one half of the high-profile and Michelin-starred Galvin brothers duo) about potential plans to open a restaurant in Dubai. While Jeff seemed unsure at the time, it seems Dubai is yet again on the Galvin brothers’ radar. They have announced that they will be launching two new restaurants in the emirate in early 2016. Firstly, the Galvins will be opening a Dubai branch of Demoiselle Café (similar to the outlet currently located in London’s Harrods store) at the new City Walk phase 2 (currently under construction and estimated for completion towards the end of January 2016). This unlicensed restaurant will offer a bakery and patisserie, along with a takeaway arm to the concept. Also coming up in 2016, and also in City Walk 2, will be a two-level restaurant complete with bar and club on the upper level. It is yet to be named, but it’s been confirmed that the venue will open at the new Ritz-Carlton hotel within the complex.
This development comes with a side portion of news that Jeff and Chris Galvin have just acquired their first pub (in Essex, UK) with the aim of building an empire of as many as 20 great British pubs in the UK. Perhaps we can also expect a Galvin-branded pub in Dubai in future.
In more pub grub news, British import and gastropub Reform Social & Grill will be launching a takeaway service next month. From Monday August 17, the brand will be offering deliveries of British pub favourites, pie and chips and fish and chips (with the menu due to expand at a later date), firstly to The Lakes, JLT and TECOM, expanding gradually to include The Greens, The Springs and The Meadows.
However, if you prefer flavours from the other side of the pond, you can head to a brand-new gastropub, this time with an American concept. Black Lion (also by the team behind Reform Social & Grill) is due to open this week on Saturday July 18 at The H Dubai. The new venue promises American food and beverage menus within a New York-inspired-setting. Black Lion will be serving from breakfast until what they are dubbing the ‘lock-in’ menu, served from midnight until 3am. Head here over the next two weeks, and until Friday July 31 for a 50 percent discount.
Finally, we leave you with news that the team behind the Pizza Guys are launching a new restaurant. Italian eatery PI.Dubai will open in The Dubai Mall, with a launch date scheduled for Eid. Created by Amber Haque and Rami Badawi who opened the Pizza Guys (pictured above), the new restaurant will offer Neapolitan-inspired pizzas as well as other classic and authentic Italian dishes.
Until next week, bon appétit!
