If you’re chronically camping averse, you may have been left out of the loop about Canada and America’s favourite campside snack: s’mores. In plain English, that is a camp-fire toasted marshmallow, made into a little sweet sandwich with melted chocolate and graham crackers. If you don’t know the graham cracker’s original history as a ‘bland food’, you may wish to look it up. And then titter at what an enticing little pile of sugar this simple cracker has turned into these days. Yet more indulgent still (than the not so humble s’more) is the recent wave sweeping Dubai, turning s’mores into the inspiration for some seriously naughty and indulgent desserts. Since it is National S’mores day in the US next week, on Monday August 10, we take a look at Dubai’s most dramatic s’mores desserts.
The s’mores rice pudding
This store specialises in rice pudding, topped with a world of whacky flavours. One option is the ‘more s’more’ topping with caramelised marshmallows and chocolate sauce.

The s’mores croissant-doughnut
Maple Leaf Deli
Head to this Canadian diner and you’ll find the menu has gone s’mores crazy. There’s a s’mores croissant-doughnut (Dhs18) filled with chocolate, drizzled with melted marshmallows and topped with graham cracker crumbs. For an insanely greedy breakfast, you can try the s’mores pancakes (Dhs28), which are topped with graham crumb, chocolate and a marshmallow cream. Further indulgence is available in the form of a s’mores cookie sandwich, made with melted chocolate, marshmallow and house-made chocolate chip cookies (Dhs27 for three pieces). As if that wasn’t enough to get your blood sugar racing, the chefs at Maple Leaf are currently in the process of adding a few more s’mores innovations to the menu, which will include a s’mores dip (à la fondue) and a s’mores ice cream.
Dhs18 per croissant-doughnut. Goldcrest Views, Cluster V, JLT (800 653 354). Other location: Jumeirah Beach Road (04 338 3001).
The s’mores cupcake
The New York bakery offers a s’mores-inspired recipe, which is a honey and graham cracker cupcake, filled with chocolate and topped with meringue icing. Also available at the bakery is the s’mores cake, which is available per slice (Dhs25) or as the whole ten portion cake (Dhs220).

The s’mores cheesecake
Actually inspired by Time Out Dubai’s s’mores round up, this new American gastro pub is offering a free s’mores-inspired dessert to diners until the end of August. Simply order a main course and claim your complimentary slice of cheesecake to finish off the meal. This creation involves a graham cracker base, and a cheesecake filling mixed with Hershey milk chocolate and crunchy peanut butter, topped with a layer of fluffy marshmallow, gently caramelised with a kitchen blowtorch.
Dhs45 per serving. Deal valid daily noon-11.30pm. Until August 31. The H Dubai, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 359 2366).
