In a tweet: A chilled-out way to start the weekend over an impressive fry-up. Best for lazy breakfast brunching.
The venue: Nezesaussi is like a friendly local without the sticky floors and threadbare bar stools. It’s trendier than most sports bars with more of a minimalist approach to design, such as big block pale wood tables and sports shirts in metallic frames.
The food: The breakfast menu is small, with the idea being to customise just one big fry-up breakfast. Choose as many options as you like from eggs (fried, poached or scrambled) beef bacon, boerewors, sautéed mushrooms, grilled heirloom tomatoes, hash browns and two slices of toast – for the bargain price of Dhs45 with tea or coffee. The boerewors in particular is juicily satisfying and the toast comes as beautiful thick slices of crusty sourdough. It’s a huge breakfast that’s tasty and well-made; a close contender for the best fry-up in the city.
The drinks: There are just two options here: tea or coffee, or four pints of selected hops. Although the breakfast runs weekly, the beverages deal is only valid on alternating weekends, so ring ahead to check.
The crowd: On our visit the crowd was sparse and quiet, with just a few couples and the odd small group of friends chit-chatting and having a laugh.
The dress code:Dress down. This breakfast brunch is as unpretentious as they come.
The service: Staff here are friendly and jovial, if a little too casual when it comes to taking accurate orders. Mix-ups can happen.
Extras & entertainment: None, this is a quiet no-frills weekend option.
Highs & lows: The boerewors is so good it deserves a second mention – an undisputable high. But the limited drinks selection could be expanded to include juices and soft drinks. There also isn’t much by way of atmosphere, but we feel like this might change once word starts to spread, especially given the fantastic value of this deal.
The after party: If you’re feeling mellow, by all means order a few more beverages and stay right where you are. Otherwise, Souk Al Bahar is just over the road, where you’ll find popular weekend venues such as Left Bank, which runs a Downtown Weekender deal from noon to 7pm, Thursday to Saturday, including five house beverages for Dhs149.
Dhs45 (tea or coffee), Dhs90 (four select beverages). Fri 10am-4pm. Manzil Downtown Dubai, Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard (04 428 5888).
