In a tweet: A classy, laidback affair with high-end cuisine. Best for a chilled-out brunch.
The venue: Guests lounge around on colourful velvet chairs upholstered in red, blue and green at this laidback, sophisticated brunch. Despite being out at the front corner of the Raffles Hotel, natural sunlight is kept out and the room is comfortably dim with flutters of soft candlelight providing atmospheric warmth. Heavy curtains separate parts of the restaurant to keep the brunch intimate.
The food: All dishes are served on the table to share. Think truffled scrambled eggs on puff pastry (a nice change from toast), home-cured salmon with cream cheese, Landes duck foie gras, two different kinds of oysters and super-cheesy truffle macaroni slices. The dessert platter also impresses, with French toast and ice cream plus Napoleon cake being particular highlights.
The drinks: Mixed drinks, sparkling grape, and fresh juices. There’s a wide range included in the package, and the staff keep you topped up.
The crowd: Mainly large groups of families and friends celebrating special occasions. Ideal if you’re looking for a good time in a civilised environment. Any children in tow are also made to feel very welcome.
The dress code: Have a little fun with your outfit, but pull from the smart side of your wardrobe.
The service: Staff are attentive and keen to keep more of what you want coming.
Extras & entertainment: Slowed down versions of contemporary songs are played on the piano along with soothing vocals, helping to provide a relaxed feel.
Highs & lows: The venue and staff are very chic, and alongside the decor and music, you feel as though you’ve been transported to a Parisian lounge.
The after party: Retire to the restaurant's bar or head into Raffles.
