Brunch

5/5

Indulging in this meat fest of epic proportions is one of the best possible ways to spend a Friday afternoon – carnivores are in for a real treat at the Meatopia Brunch.

Sit outside on the small patio, which has a garden party vibe, and all the food is brought to you to the cool and funky sounds of the ’70s and ’80s, played at just the right level to be enjoyable, while you talk to the company sitting with you.

Brunch happens in three stages. A platter of starters is brought out for your table to share. It features a manageable portion of small bites, including delicious rabbit and parmesan fritters, inventive oxtail doughnuts, an indulgently cheesy artichoke and spinach dip, and a smooth yet intensely rich chicken liver parfait.

All of this serves to whet your appetite for the main, meaty event. Choose from the prime rib, whole chicken and whole lamb shoulder, which can be ordered between a minimum of two guests. If you’d rather not share, single portion options include two types of steak, slow-roasted beef cheek, seared yellowfin tuna tataki and confit fried chicken leg.

Choose wisely when it comes to this course. If you don’t order the shoulder of lamb, believe us when we say you’ll suffer from serious food envy as soon as you see it delivered to the table next to yours. It scores big when it comes to taste, too.

Don’t forget dessert, either. An apple pie with ice cream, blueberry cheesecake, campfire s’mores sundae and a soda float will all make their way to your table. Banish thoughts of being full and tuck into the burnt marshmallow, peanut butter cookies and dulce de leche of the s’mores sundae, which is impossibly moreish.

This is one of the most relaxed and enjoyable Friday afternoon feasts we’ve experienced in the city. It gets quite full and the area is small, but it never feels overly crowded or overwhelming.

Not having to navigate a packed buffet also adds to the laid-back experience.
