This recently-opened hotel overlooking the under-construction Dubai Canal is elegant with plenty of modern flourishes. Filament light bulbs with small glass shades hang low from the double height ceiling, suspended by long, steel cables. The colour scheme is fresh – creams and whites with flecks of grey, with minimalistic grey sofas adding to the contemporary look.
The international buffet is broken down into themes: Asian, Italian, roasts, salads, seafood, sushi and a grill cooking up German meats to order. The barbecue station is inside, so try to avoid sitting by the plume of smoke that fills the area around it. Desserts occupy a small stand but offer plenty of variety. You can probably sample one type of every individually-sized cake, tart and creation in a jar if you really want to, as well as the chopped fresh fruits.
Staff pace the venue ensuring no-one is left wanting. There are no drinks stations, but service is quick, so you won’t need to wait long for your order. Outside would be the most pleasant place to sit, with views out to the new canal area, but the terrace is wrapped in a cloak as it’s right on the pedestrian walkway.
It will be interesting to see how the ambience changes when construction is complete and word catches on about this hotel and its value-for-money brunch. But for now, it feels like a well-kept secret for those in the know to enjoy.
