If you wake up with a head full of cobwebs after a particularly late Friday night, then you’ll be after a place to chill where the staff are attentive, the food tasty and abundant, and the vibe easygoing. Bushman’s at Anantara The Palm is that place. No pretentiousness here, just good, honest tucker from a team that clearly know what they’re doing.
Taking a seat on the terrace you are afforded views of the Gulf, while inside the decor is homely and welcoming.
The smells you encounter when you approach the “grazing station” to grab your starters are enough to make any tummy rumble. Options include the beautifully fresh oysters, carpaccio-style kangaroo meat, mini lamb pie, mini fisherman’s pie and Vegemite ratatouille. All are lovely in their own way but the real highlight is the rabbit and kangaroo terrine, which is simply delightful.
There are four options for mains, including a kipfler potato frittata for vegetarians. The spit-fired wagyu beef rump with red grape jus is wonderfully juicy and tender, while the roast chicken breast with lamb chorizo and cannellini beans is nicely cooked – ask for some of the jus to accompany it and stop it becoming a tad dry.
Bushman’s also produces a thoughtfully presented spread of desserts, with the Tim Tam and raspberry tarte taking the fore. The drinks menu is, as you’d expect, made up of Australian hops and grape, but they also knock up a Spanish-style mixed beverage that draws inspiration from Melbourne or Richmond.
This brunch is lazy by name and with good reason; even the music reminds you of a beach-fire soirée. Thankfully, though, nothing is lethargic about the grub or the service.
