Andiamo brunch

An Italian brunch with plenty of style as well as substance

Brunches come in all shapes and sizes in Dubai – from the playful, party spots and the cheap and cheery to the more refined that leave your wallet begging for mercy. But Andiamo, a mainstay Italian restaurant in the heart of the Grand Hyatt Dubai, refuses to be pigeonholed quite so easily.

The venue is brimming with effortless sophistication but also has a lively sense of fun.

The happy pairing of elegance and entertainment is obvious from the moment you walk through the door.

The spacious indoor dining area has a touch of Italian tradition, with striking art adorning the walls, while the pretty outdoor terrace is a charming spot to soak in the sun over a few courses.

But as we are led to our seat by the smartly-attired and friendly staff, we can’t help but notice the front end of a bright red Lambretta pinned to the wall. Our attention is then quickly drawn to a smiling chef, resplendent in his whites, entertaining diners by performing sleight-of-hand tricks with a napkin.

Andiamo gets top marks for style – and there is plenty of substance too. The bumper brunch is packed with authentic Italian dishes presented with flair.

We start off with some tasty bruschetta and hearty Italian breads, kept company on our laden plate by a variety of cold cuts and an assortment of superb cheeses.

Somehow resisting the urge to fill up on starters alone, we make a move to the station of main courses, picking out a sizeable lamb chop, meatballs in a terrifically tangy tomato sauce and a fantastic lasagne Bolognese that demands a second helping.

A crowded table of desserts somehow doesn’t buckle under the pressure of the array of such delights piled on it. We happily lighten the load by relieving it of a decadent praline crème and a chocolate mousse cake that is sure to satisfy even the most ardent of sweet toothes.

It is a delightful end to a delicious brunch that combines a fine dining setting with a quirky outlook for those keen on some fun to go along with their Friday dining.
