Dish of the week: Belgian bangers

We discovers hearty European comfort food at new JLT restaurant Le Petit Belge

Dubai isn’t short of options when you’ve got a hankering for Belgian fare, but that’s not to say there’s no room for another eatery proudly serving up moules frites and chocolate mousse.

The city’s latest recruit, Le Petit Belge, offers a “truly Belgian experience” (including some traditional hops, which vary in price depending on what’s on offer that day).

Promising “world-renowned Belgian cuisine, unmistakable Belgian hospitality and continental charm”, we’re thrilled about this authentic new dining spot (we can never resist chips and mayo in any guise).

Some of the dishes on the menu come with a twist, though, such as the Caesar salad (made with Brussels sprouts and Parmesan-crusted chicken), but there are plenty of traditional classics on the menu, too, including the aforementioned, perfectly crispy yet fluffy Belgian frites.

Highlights from the light bites section include mini croque monsieurs, lobster rolls and homemade waffle chips, while more substantial meals include mussels (in a range of sauces, from garlic cream to Thai curry) to Flemish beef stew and this bangers and mash.

The veal sausages come with Brussels stoemp (a mashed potato mixture with cream, onion, herbs and a combo of other veg), all smothered in a rich onion gravy.

It certainly sounds like proper comfort grub, whatever side of the channel (or world)you’re from.
