The City Grill brunch

A juicy feast at this Al Habtoor City steakhouse

We love a juicy steak here at Time Out Towers – and we’ve made our feelings about a good brunch pretty clear.

So the chance to combine the two should surely have us licking our lips in anticipation.

The only qualm we have entering into it, though, is that we don’t always fancy devouring a prime cut of meat early in the afternoon, as the fancy steakhouse experience feels more of an evening thing.

Despite those misgivings, we soon get in the mood for meat as we make our way into one of the newer and more stylish steak joints Dubai. The City Grill, in Al Habtoor City, with its dark and sophisticated interiors and quirky array of artwork adorning the walls, catches the eye as soon as you walk in.
Helped along, no doubt, by the surge in popularity of The Atrium thanks to the spectacular aquatheatre show La Perle, the restaurant swiftly fills up with hungry diners. This makes for a lively atmosphere, which is enhanced by the chilled-out beats of a DJ.

The brunch kicks off with a selection of tasty starters, available buffet-style in the sleek and spacious dining area, allowing you vital time to whet your appetite for the meaty main courses to come.

We are impressed by the variety and quality on offer, including pasta dishes, chicken curry, a duck platter as well as lighter, more traditional starters such as a warming French onion soup and crisp Waldorf salad.

The appetising selection gives diners a chance to enjoy the ambience before tucking into the undoubted stars of the show – the steaks.

Brunchers can choose from a range of meat grills, such as sirloin, sausages and chicken wings, which are all brought to your table.

The steak is excellent. The tender meat is perfectly pink, and the barbecue-style cooking really lifts the flavour.

We also opt for a burger, which is quickly demolished as we find that an afternoon indulging our inner carnivore isn’t such a bad thing after all.

The only confusing aspect of the brunch, however, is the beverage package. We are surprised to find grape and shorts included in the house beverage deal, with hops only part of the premium package, along with bubbly.

It is only a small misstep, though, on a top brunching journey that we would be happy to travel again.

La Perle isn’t the only reason to make your way to Al Habtoor City – The City Grill’s Friday feast is a show-stopper in its own right.
Dhs265 (soft drinks), Dhs375 (house beverages), Dhs445 (hops and bubbly), Dhs135 (kids aged six-12), free (kids under six). Fri 12.30pm-4pm. The Atrium, Al Habtoor City (04 437 0088).

The bottom line
This quality brunch is a meat-lovers dream.
