New menu: Café Bateel

We check out the fresh new summer menu at Café Bateel

Restaurants Related, New issue out now

Summer is fast approaching, and we’re all about the fresh, light tastes. And restaurants in Dubai are providing just what we need – including at popular eatery Café Bateel.

It’s not all about the dates at this homegrown brand – although they are rather excellent – as the new summer menu proves. It features seasonal ingredients and includes soups, salads and mains – as well as vegan choices such as the Healthy Green Bowl. This combination of quinoa, grains, spinach, kale, green peas, asparagus, avocado, broccoli, green tomatoes and French beans more than caters for your five-a-day.

“The new menu reflects the trends in Dubai, with the market moving towards healthy and organic options,” chef Jean-Luc Vila tells Time Out Dubai.

“My thought process behind every new dish is to bring something that has not been done before or putting that special Bateel twist to well-loved dishes.”

Catching our eye most is this avocado toast, which is also chef Vila’s favourite dish on the new menu. Wholewheat bread is topped with avocado and two poached eggs. It’s served with garden salad with lemon dressing and a swirl of beetroot hummus for that pop of colour and a nod to the restaurant’s Middle Eastern roots.

“It’s a lighter offering and perfect for breakfast,” adds the chef.

There are also new desserts including pomelo cheesecake and chocolate cake.

Go on, you earned it with all that greenery.
