Time Out Says

In Dubai we’re often far removed from the actual origins of food. Meals come to us served up in a multitude of fancy ways, covered in truffle or on a gold plate. At Fish Market it’s back to basics. Firstly it’s a stone’s throw from the mouth of the Creek, so you feel near to the source. Secondly, as the name suggests, it’s market-style; so you get to inspect and select your catch yourself. It’s all costed by weight so it can be pricier, but you’ll not mind as portions are generous and tasty. Red snapper and shrimp are both good here, but whatever you pick, take it over to the counter in a basket and tell the staff how you want it done. The prawns sautéed in a lemon and garlic sauce is ace. Rich and buttery, it’s an ideal partner for the juicy shrimp. For the snapper , choose a Thai red curry which is fragrant and light. It’s not too spicy and the coconutty broth doesn’t overpower the delicate white fish. The restaurant has a slightly dated feel about it, but not to its detriment – it’s laid-back with decent Creek views, making it an ideal lunch spot.
