Flames Grills & Curry

Time Out Says

One of a slew of recent Indian restaurants that has opened up in JLT, a trip to Flames left us feeling lukewarm about its culinary offerings. The venue’s general demeanour doesn’t help – blacked-out windows mean you don’t feel a huge urge to rush inside. Upon entering, the first thing that catches the attention is a DVD playing a video of, well, flames. The second thing is the music: a selection of decent 1970s and 1980s soul and funk wafts from speakers rather loudly. As for the food, it is sadly underwhelming. One standout, though, is the stuffed aloo paratha – a sandwich-like soft bread filled with potato, which provides a hefty dollop of moreish sustenance. But the music proved to be the most memorable thing here and we weren’t left with a burning desire to return, considering the more superior options for curry in the area.
