Flamingo Room by tashas
Time Out Says
And so it’s with excitement we head to Flamingo Room by tashas, the first licensed venue in Dubai from founder Natasha Sideris.
After a long, quiet summer, we’re pleasantly surprised to find it packed. We take our seats in the main dining room (there’s a terrace, too) where the large space is filled with a busy, friendly hum of chatter.
The vibe is relaxed, with floor-to-ceiling windows are thrown open, and we love the quirky décor, showpiece lighting and pale pink walls.
The lounge seats are not the most comfortable, however, so we recommend booking a higher table.
Wait staff know their stuff and we’re given a rundown of the menu.
After some deliberation (so many dishes sound appealing), we opt for beef carpaccio and calamari to start. The former is perfectly seasoned and tender, while the fried calamari is very delicate.
A delightfully retro lobster and prawn vol-au-vent follows for main course. Flaky, buttery pastry is robust without being heavy, filled with a decadent and yet not too rich cream sauce. Sizeable, meaty chunks of lobster and prawn complete the line-up, while the sauce is studded with peas for a dash of colour.
The cornflake chicken schnitzel is equally delicious, complemented by tangy roasted tomatoes.
Portions are more than generous, too. Even so, we can’t resist the Black Forest tart, which comes adorned with gold-dusted cherries. Which rather sums Flamingo Room up really – gold stars all round.
