Time Out Says
A casual French café-restaurant just behind the Burj Khalifa on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, Fournil de Pierre is much of a muchness in the line-up of high-ceilinged, casual Parisian-style chains. Dieters beware – that extends to a desperately fresh, tasty looking patisserie display in a glass cabinet right by the entrance. Alongside Gallic tarts, quiches, salads and hot mains, there’s also the odd pasta dish and plate of sliders, which admittedly tend to vary in their execution. Nevertheless, Frioul is a good shout for a bite at breakfast, when the Boulevard is a little quieter and parking a little less hectic if you’re planning to hit The Dubai Mall straight after. At this point in the day there’s also the opportunity to take advantage of generous portions, coffee or tea and freshly-squeezed juice included. The petite dejeuner mediterraneen is a colourful Lebanese-style arrangement, with halloumi, fresh tomato and cucumber, plus eggs cooked to your liking – go scrambled for something heart-stoppingly rich. Frioul also prides itself on “les crossan’wich”, and beyond the usual suspects of emmental and turkey, options include smoked salmon with lemon cream cheese, which might contain your entire weekly fat allowance, but we doubt you’ll regret it for a minute.
