Lip-smacking steaks and kebabs overlooking The Dubai Fountain

Time Out Says

It may sit on the edge of the tourist magnet that is The Dubai Fountain, but this stylish Turkish meatery is by no means just for visitors.

Tear your eyes away from dancing jets of water and feast them instead on a huge display of steaks and kebabs, behind which chefs fire through orders in an action-packed open kitchen. Accompanying each dish that’s ready for service is a waiter who serves dishes to the table with panache and a familiar flair… Günaydın, as you may have suspected, has a touch of Nusr-Et about it – so it’s no surprise the two are owned by the same company.

But here in Souk Al Bahar, there’s as much Turkish cuisine on the menu as liberally seasoned steak. And while prices may be slightly steeper than in neighbouring unlicensed restaurants, you won’t need to save your visit for a special occasion.

From an enormous (really, it’s huge) menu proffering everything from Anatolian mezze to pides, steaks and burgers to pages and pages of kebabs, don’t leave without at least attempting to try a bit of everything. Not least the warm hummus topped with tiny morsels of pastrami, or the semsek pide smothered in antep cheese.

But it’s the alinazik kebap that really steals the show. Rich skewers of minced lamb sit on top of a smoky, tangy medley of yoghurt, aubergine and garlic so righteously, unctuously creamy that you may well need a lie down afterwards.

Just be prepared to find yourself dreaming about coming back.

(We already are.)
