Gold on 27
Time Out Says
Staying, and dining, at the iconic hotel will set you back a bit, but if you’re after a drink with a view then make a date at Gold on 27. As you’d expect for such an address, the bar is still expensive, but less so than other spots in the hotel. You still have to book in advance, but there’s no minimum spend, which is a relief.
From the twinkling golden bar, the shiny gold stools and the sparkling décor, every surface is shimmering and regal.
Service is friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is more laid-back than you might expect, though it’s still one to dress up for.
Drinks are creative and if you’re after a nibble there’s an inventive (and pricey) menu.
But although the mixed drinks and setting deliver, the same can’t be said for the food. Lamb praline consists of ridiculously rich chunks of lamb in parcels, while spicy Cajun prawn popcorn is fine, but not worth the Dhs145 price tag.
If you’re only after a light snack, don’t miss the truffle potato wedges, which are crisp and delicately truffled – although we’re not sure you’re really heading to Burj Al Arab for chips.
Book for a bucket-list trip to the Burj, order an inventive gold-laden mixed drink and enjoy the views. The food isn’t a must-try.
