Everyone loves a good curry, but there’s nothing worse than the exhaustion that inevitably follows an overindulgent biryani session. Luckily, Govinda’s has a secret strategy to help combat the slump – and it’s all in the cooking.

The chefs here use the sattvic method, which means they skip out onion and garlic, to increase energy in diners.

Many of the dishes on the enormous menu here feature paneer (Indian cottage cheese), too, making Govinda’s something of a vegetarian haven. You can even buy the Govinda’s produced paneer to take home to cook up your own dishes.

Indeed, most diets are catered for – whether you’re vegan, looking for protein or counting the calories.

Although it’s a budget diner, Govinda’s isn’t scrimping on the portions.

A hearty plate of curry can be had for under Dhs40, with particular highlights including the super-spicy paneer pepper bhurji and the palak makhani kofta – or spinach dumplings stuffed with tasty cottage cheese.

But it’s not just Indian food on the menu, with Chinese and Italian sections offering something for all tastes if you’re in a group of fussy eaters.

And, most importantly, your bill will come in at less than Dhs100 for two – and you’ll leave with a spring in your step.
