Hugo Cafe

Time Out Says

Hugo doesn’t seem entirely sure about what it wants to be. It’s advertised as a French/Vietnamese restaurant and sure enough everything on the menu is written in French. Yet a lot of the food on offer is neither French nor Vietnamese – in fact, there’s a lot more Italian food than you’d expect. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing, because the gnocchi, for instance, is delicious. Other dishes include the likes of red shrimp curry, which is a little on the spicy side. More French flair is reflected in the interior, which is decorated like a Parisian café – there are street signs and posters of Victor Hugo (the author of Les Misérables) everywhere. Hugo looks like a good place for book-lovers and literary types to hang out, too – it’s named after a famous author, after all, and one side of the space is dedicated to a huge bookcase.
