Starters include the usual array of cold mezze and salads, plus hot dishes such as meaty fried sardines, sweet local clams seasoned with black pepper and a not-to-be-missed grilled squid that will disappear from the table within seconds of being set down.Skip the menu of mains such as fish biryani and shrimp curry and head inside to check out the display of the restaurant’s catch of the day, typically laden with all manner of local fish, prawns and lobster, all ready to be cooked to order. Chargrilled butterfly style is among the restaurant’s most popular, served either plain, with Ibn AlBahr’s own seasoning mix, or with an aromatic local masala blend.
Whatever the order, the kitchen knock it out of the park. And though prices have increased over the past year, Ibn AlBahr still represents great value for money across the board. It also excels in Lebanese dishes, which is why it not only picked Best Seafood Restaurant at the 2019 Restaurant Awards, it also claimed Highly Commended in Best Lebanese.
It’s not often you’ll find such great cooking in such a relaxed, accessible setting. Little wonder its reeling the punters in with such regularity.
